Want to make your shoes light up when you walk, or your skirt change from ankle length to mid thigh based on the temperature? With a little electronics knowledge you can easily integrate your love of robotics with your love of fashion, and create functional clothes for you and your bots!
Sparkfun’s 21st Century Fashion Kit comes with an assortment of interesting parts for creating wearable, electronic fashion pieces. The obvious elements — such as a 9V snap connector, needles, and sewable coin battery holders — are included. But there are also a couple of interesting finds. Notably, a silk flower with an embedded RGB LED, antique gold-plated thread, and some Sapphire Blue Thermochromatic Pigment that can be mixed with a variety of things to cause them to change color when they heat up and cool down. (Think Hypercolor clothing.)
The kit was made in collaboration with Diana Eng, a contestant on Project Runway who was known for integrating technology into her designs.
