Looking for a smarter brain for your Lego robot? Check out the EVB: A a replacement for the EV3 that acts as a shield, or cape, for the BeagleBone Black and is compatible with all Lego sensors. In fact, with the extra sensor board in the EVB you can add more sensors!
While the LEGO® Mindstorms EV3 has an ARM9 (TI Sitara AM180x) in it, the BeagleBone Black is a definite step up with an ARM Cortex-A8 (TI Sitara AM335x). The display on the EVB is also better: a 200 X 176 True Color LED with backlight. And the EBV has eight times as much memory as the EV3, with 512 MB of RAM.
Beta versions of the EVB and sensors are currently being sold via an already successful Kickstarter campaign by FatCatLab. Several sensors are also being released, including a temperature and humidity sensor, 9 DOF sensor, pressure/altitude sensor, and gesture sensor. FatCatLab plans to start shipping items in April 2015.
