WHY DIDN’T YOU THINK OF THIS? — SONAR FOR THE BLIND

You ever see a new invention and think that, heck, it is so very obvious, I should have come up with this in an eye-blink ages ago!?!  That probably happens to all of us, and here’s one that evoked those feelings in me: Tacit, a hand-strapped sonar device that uses ultrasonic sensors that tell the user the proximity of objects through gentle force feedback in the glove itself. It is wrist mounted and senses objects from about 1 inch (2 cm) to 10 feet (3.5m).  It has a fast response time (fractions of a second) to enable the user to quickly navigate complex environments. It’s designed to help a vision impaired person move around in day to day life. It does not interfere with other types of assistive devices and the learning curve is well under a minute. All I can say is “Wow” this is cool.http://vimeo.com/27675622
