This artistic CNC machine can work in two ways: it can paint based on completed vector artwork, or work along with you as you sketch. It can use a variety of mediums too, including pens, pencils and watercolor paints. Two little motors built into the wooden frame of the bot drive winches that move the paint brush around the paper. A carriage raises and lowers the brush on and off the paper.
First offered as a Kickstarter, this collaborative project by Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories and Super Awesome Sylvia now features several improvements, including an aluminum carriage with crossed linear roller bearings. It also comes fully assembled so that it’s ready to use right out of the box. Best of all, it works with regular watercolors and paper so there’s no need for special supplies.
WaterColorBot 2.0 can be purchased online for $295.
