A novel desk that automatically adjusts its height to meet your needs has received full funding on Kickstarter. Each desk, which will be built by a company called Autonomous, will also respond to voice commands.
The designers say the desk will act as a virtual assistant that the people can control using natural language. Want to set a reminder to pick up more kitty litter? Tell the desk! Need to place a lunch order at a local restaurant? Tell the desk to do it! The desk will also be able to control connected devices such as lights and thermostats.
The height of the desk can be controlled using a keypad located under the table, or by using an app. But that’s just one of many apps that will work with the desk, according to Autonomous.
“There will be so many different apps available for Autonomous Desk,” reads the Kickstarter campaign. “It already works with Wolfram Alpha, Yelp, Nest and other services & devices to get you even more functionality over time. But this is just the beginning. For developers, it’s a new platform with exciting opportunities for apps. The Autonomous Desk SDK, built on Android, will give developers a powerful way to create new apps designed specifically for Autonomous Desk.”
The full version of he 120-pound desk will also include wireless and USB charging stations, speakers, and even a clip to hang your bag.
