Jade Rabbit Keeps on Hopping! China’s feisty Jade Rabbit moon rover continues operating despite some initial difficulties. Since its arrival in December 2013, it has survived 8 lunar days. Although stationary for some months owing to wheel issues in a rough rocky terrain, facing wild temperature swings between 100 degrees C in sunlight, and -180 degrees C in the lunar night, it continues to send information back to China’s space agency.
Despite these challenges , Yutu has sent back a great amount of data to Earth, which according to Emily Lakdawalla of The Planetary Society and Nature magazine, will be reported on in an upcoming issue of the journal Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics.
China’s Jade Rabbit continues to operate four months after its official mission end.
