Default Some basic questions.

In my previous post I talked about the Power Wheels Jeep/ Garden cart robot project. I'd like some info on how to go about installing R/C motor control. The motor I'm using is 12 volts. It uses two batteries,in series. [Positve of one batt to the Neg of the 2nd batt., the Neg of the first batt to the Positive of the 2nd batt. Series, right?] The specs on the side of each batt are:
Battery # DJW12-9.0 12 volts- 9.0 AH. Standby voltage- 13.5 to 13.8 volts.
Cycle- 14.4 to 15.0 volts. Initial current less then 2.7 A. I'm somewhat confused about motor controllers; motor speed controllers; and motor drivers!
Looking for suggestions on what motor controller to use for this project.
If I understand correctly; the controller would be rated at 12 volts and handle up to 3 amps. Any help would be appreciated.
Lloyd
