I'm currently planning/building my first antweight robot, and can't decide on the voltage to use for my motors. I'm planning to use copal 60:1's, (here (http://www.robotmarketplace.com/marketplace_ant_motors.html))
but I don't know what volatge to use. I am currently planning to run them at 12volts, but I'm not sure if that would make them run too fast and make the robot hard to control.

Also, sorry if this is a really stupid question, but I can't really find any definite numbers anywhere on the internet.
How big is an average antweight? Thank you in advance for any and all answers.

I can't believe its been so long since I checked here, sorry! I use copals all the time in my antweights, best motors ever if ....

I run 12 volts, but they'll go to 18. Speed depends on wheel diameter, as does torque. I have used 1.75" and 2" wheels on my ants with these. You take the RPM and wheel diameter to figure speed. Its critical to know how big an arena you'll be in. 8' square is typical but often smaller ones are used. A good driver with a good bot can handle about 1 to 1.5 seconds to cross the box. I can't steer that well, I use 2 seconds, or about 48 inches per second. A lot of that has to do with how wide your wheelbase is.

Of course, more speed = less torque/pushing power.

In the US, ants are 16 ounces. In the UK they are 150 grams or 5.3 ounces. In the US those 150 gm bots are called fleaweights or fairyweights.

Please post again, I'll try to do better!
