A new MRI study from the The Weizmann Institute of Science in Israelsuggests that the brain has built-in support forkinematic motion laws not just in the areas that produce motion but alsoin the areas that perceive visual motion and observe action. This isimportant because, "humans can easily perceive and infer emotions andintentions from the movements and actions of other individuals". Ineffect, the researchers found that the brain is "optimally tuned" toperceivekinematic and geometrical motions of the type produced by biologicalorganisms. For all the details, read the study, titled "NeuralRepresentations of Kinematic Laws of Motion: Evidence foraction-perception coupling" (PDF format). Understanding thekinematic and perceptual principles involved could be helpful in makingrobot better able to interact with humans and other biological organisms.
