That's what CMU's William L. Whittaker had to say about the DARPA UrbanChallenge, where his Tartanteam's robot, Boss, took first prize. Boss (PDFformat) is based on a 2007 Chevy Tahoe and sports 10 Intel Core2Duoblades running at 2.16 GHz. It can maintain a speed of 30 MPH inautonomous mode. Stanford's Juniorcame in second. Taking third place was team Victor Tango of VirginiaTech with their robot, Odin. Otherrobots didn't do as well. The Oshkosh Terramax robot was stoppedjust in time toprevent a collision. The robot from the University of Central Floridacollided with an abandoned building, MIT's robot collided with anotherrobot entered by a German team. For more details see the official results, NewYork times coverage of the contest, a first hand account from the AutomotiveDesign blog, and the many YouTubevideos and flickrphotos of the event.
