so will it be at the toys r us stores?
That would be cool if it is. I've noticed after going into Toys R Us the other week that they now have half an aisle devoted to robotic toys. That is very good for the future of the hobby. Getting kids into does nothing but help the hobby.
If I had to guess, I would assume transformers played a big role in that.

from what the sales people are telling me they should be in stores no later than December. If it will with its $299 price point my just be a online item the info i got that off the toys r us website did the search for (robots and list all) and there he was
If possible I want to buy from a brick and mortar so it can returned it if there is any defects not have to wait months for a replacement. Have a red robosapien v2 that had to be exchanged cause his eyes where stuck. so it was easier to drive to the mall to exchange it

Keep in mind that sometimes you may be speaking to a 18 or 19 year old that really couldn't care less about what you are looking for and could be blowing smoke, especially with you calling on the phone.

I have had the i-sobot for a few days now and it is very fun, but a color camera and bluetooth with some robust sofware on the pc would be very keen.

Sorry, I have not been around as of late I have been out of town on business.
Pros - inexpensive, fully functional (17 DOF) and alot of preprogrammed functions, major fun.
Cons - It is a toy at this point, it needs some sensors and a desktop program to design some program modules for a more autonomous bot.
Other than that this is a great way to introduce kids to robotics, it will capture their attention and hopefully ignite a passion to further their education is robotics.
I will try to shoot some videos of i-sobot doing some advanced moves.

I just followed the link above to G4TV and on that show they were actually comparing the i-sobot to the Robosapien......that makes me laugh. Robosapien is like a toy dispensed by a bubble gum machine in comparisons to the i-sobot. Tomy's i-sobot is far superior to the Robosapien.

I am getting one this weekend. Our local Sharper Image store has them. I have looked at a lot of robots, but this is the most inexpensive bot that gives you more than just basic movements. I also thought about the robophilo, and may still order one of those. $499 for the philo and his walking looks really good. No voice chip though.

dadsworld,
I looked at the robophilo also and I might order one of those also. I have a vew kit also that I picked up last year when Radioshack dumped the product line, got a great deal on it, I now have to put it together and get the programmer's kit and some more sensors.
Anyways, I took the I-sobot over to my inlaws for Thanksgiving dinner and had my neices and nephews totally enthralled with it. I was so pleased to hear that at least two of my nephews have an interest in robotics.

I just checked out various videos of the i-sobot, as well as the review on it that is linked on one of the threads.
i-sobot is one of the coolest bipedals I've ever seen. I started my bipedal experience with building one with the lego mindstorm (RIS 2.0), then moved onto wowee's robosapien (v1), and I now own and am working on the bipedal scout offered by lynxmotion.
I must say, i-sobot is one of the best value I've ever seen (it's about $200 on amazon.com now). At that price, I thought the bipedal walker was an excellent value. Plus it has attitude to boot! Sure, it's no Kondo or a Robonova or a Lynxmotion's humanoid bipedal, but I love the size (at 6.5") and the price!!!
Are there user sites that is thinking about or have already started to hack the i-sobot?

I have joined the ranks of being an i-sobot owner... I placed my order on Amazon and hopefully it will be here sometime this week... ;)
Can't wait to play with the little booger...
17 DOF for a little over 200 bucks, that's an awesome deal!
