It's been my dream since a child to build a lifelike, lifesize type of robot.

I've been so busy over the years I've never been able to truly settle down and research enough to build what I have in mind.

The dream is the terminator with muscle wire reflexes etc. I know, I'm dreaming, or am I?

I'm trying to find either a project perfect for helping me learn the exact types of skills I need to be able to sit down and actually design my lifelong project, or something similar in style that I might begin developing myself and building upon.

Might any of you have any ideas?

I dont want to waste time or money on the little radio shack kits or the "spend a $1000 on this carbon copy toy kit" kits, I want to build something real, open ended with opportunity to build upon it further with modifications and such.

Any ideas that might help?

At this point I think you're dreaming but hey, welcome to the club.

What you're thinking about is possible but would cost more than you could likely afford. Take a look at what Asimo cost Honda.

A more reasonable approach might be to pick up one of the smaller humanoid kits that run between $1000 and $2000 or more for higher end packages.

Or check out what the folks at http://www.leafproject.org/ are doing these days.
