So, MicroRaptor isn't quite humanoid, but a lot of the same technology and techniques apply...

I got my Bioloid kit, so I've started construction - click on the "MicroRaptor Construction" link on the above page for pictures...

Maybe we should change the heading to Bipeds, your creation certainly belongs in here.

With what you've achieved so far it would just be a short step to play with some experimental gaits using the CM-5. And then a short video would really be cool. :)
Would you call that a chicken leg configration or just a high ankle joint?

Well, its really a dinosaur leg configuration, which may or may not be the same as a chicken. In reality, the "foot" of MicroRaptor is the front part of the raptor's foot, and the backwards knee is the ankle.
I think it would be a lot of trouble to build a gait for this using the CM-5 - I would have to do it by hand, and that seems to me to be more trouble than the way I am planning on doing.
You'll get video soon enough, I promise :-)

If your gait is static you could probably put together something that works in very short order using the terminal progam. Of course a dynamic gait would take longer.
I'll just have to work on my patience. :)

I've updated the page with more pictures, and a couple movies of the robot doing a couple simple sequences.

Click on MicroRaptor Construction for pictures, and MicroRaptor Movies (obviously) for the videos...

More screenshots, and a new movie:
This shows some of the tools I've been working on:

This is my movie page, and I've added a new one - MicroRaptor's first step!

Not just a baby shuffle either, a great big whopping 6" stride...

So, here it is - first walking sequence:

Click on "MicroRaptor Movies" - the walking one is at the bottom.
Still very crude, but its walking...

Looking good Jon, even at that slow pace I'd think he could still run down a Pleo. :)

Thanks Harry :D
I should be able to get the gait running much smoother once I get some more work done on my tools. But just looking at what I have now - yeah, this thing is going to be fast...

I really think you may have something very close to an ideal bipedal platform with the MicroRaptor. The lower CG combined with the wide hips and the cantilever effect of the head and tail should allow some pretty precise balancing once you dial it in.

Speaking of walking fast...
I made a new walk sequence last night, from the same steps, but executed over half the time. There's a new movie up now, walking faster (http://www.bioloid.info/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=MicroRaptor+Movies)...

Very nice. I know it is just beginning but it is really looking good. The floor was a little slippery how does it look on a surface with a little more traction?

Yeah, it still needs a lot of work...
Eventually, it won't matter, because he will have rubber/silicone pads on the bottom of his feet. Before I do that, I need to do more work on my tools so that I can do better than linear interpolation between keyframe poses.
