Anyone know a source? The VEX shaft encoders would be okay... if they were 1/5th the price. I am electronics knowledgable enough to DIY optical encoders using IR phototransistors, but would prefer not to.

What sort of dimensions do you have to work with? Is this a mini-sumo or a lawnmower?
