Robot Optimizers, Inc (interesting name!) have an cool product called "Boomer the tenis robot". This is a high tech tennis ball machine that uses video capture & processing to measure your shot and then launch another ball at you, as if it was hit by an opposing player.
From the description on their website (http://www.tennisrobot.com/):
"Boomer is the first tennis ball machine that allows the user to actually play against it. Boomer can serve, return, play out a point, call the lines and the score, rate the quality of your shots - even talk trash - and can do it any level of ability, from rank beginner to world champion."
I wonder what would happen if you pointed two of these things at each other across a net :-)
