I just found and article on the Phoenix Mars Lander mission. Mothballed after the Mars Polar Lander crashed, the redesigned lander is expected to launch this August 2007. Here is a link to the full article

There was also a clip on the news tonight that suggested there was evidence of recent water on or near the surface of Mars. This would certainly heat up the arguments for more missions to this planet.

Coupled with the idea of putting an outpost on the Moon to service such exploration would make for some interesting real estate deals in the future. Though with no atmosphere and little chance of keeping it there it might be challenging to keep that up on the Moon. Maybe it will just become a depot on the way to Mars?

Anybody with a spare terraforming device lying about?
