Since we have an outline for a robot, I was wondering if the next contest should be the closest example of same. Since not all readers have a garage of robots the objective will be to submit stories and examples of robots whether they own them or not. This should help find and share interesting information in the robotics landscape, be a accessible to everyone and continue the theme of defining "robot".

So far we have a robot as:

- a machine that [can] operates under self-control, performs a task, and reacts to its environment;
- a tool that incorporates and responds to information;
- an adaptive device that can interact and respond phsyically to it's environment, and perform a task - and/or that allows a remote operator to do so, either in real time or via preprogrammed command;
- a device that moderates human input and [produces a modified or enhanced output].

So we've all heard about robots now...let's see some!

Either as a contest or just as a thread. I would like to see what is out there or just robots people have (met?), seen, or interacted with. When I get to my home I'll have to send some of my robot photos.

In 2005 I had a chance to spend a few days at NASA Ames research center. They have some terrific simulators there and do some really interesting research. One area that they were working on at the time was developing some autonomous programming for Mars rover type robots. I had a chance to see K-9 a Fido class Mars rover testbed. Here is some pictures of K-9. If you look close at the second picture you can see the dog collar that "rover" was wearing.
