Not really ROBO-ONE but check out the new essay on the BRAT on the Robot magazine website. I can sure see this little guy popping out of some boxes on December 25th.

Not really ROBO-ONE...

Perhaps not in the most literal sense, but nevertheless, it looks like a fantastic way to get started with bipeds. Learn the basics, get involved, then either add-on and expand, or move up to the next level.

Most of the 'ROBO-ONE' kits today are impressive, but are too complex for a novice to start off with. In contrast, the Brat, at least from the online article, contains all the important elements and principles without the complexity.

There are some competitions in Japan, like Robo-Fight and Robo-Gong in Osaka, where designs similar to the Brat face off against each other. One of the things I like about the Brat concept is that the entry price is low enough that a small group or class can get involved, share the learning experience, and even stage their own little competitions.
