Ideas on EAP actuators?

If anyone has any firsthand experience with electroactive polymers, especially electronic type, I'd like to hear any advice you can give me on them. I'm wanting to make some of the elecronic type (i'd go with ioninc BUT they seem to be a bit too chemically complex for me to whip up at home) to use in some robotic projects but I don't really know what I'm doing so any guiding advice would be appreciated.
