Coyote UAS Storm Observer 1st Test Flight

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has partnered with BAE Systems to produce the Coyote unmanned aircraft system for use in the investigation of storm behavior. The platform was initially designed for military and scientific research, and it is an excellent vehicle for in-storm surveillance. It is deployed from a 3-foot long sonobuoy dropped from a P-3 aircraft. After an initial test,NOAA says the Coyote demonstrated potential to provide researchers with valuable observations during high-wind environments, such as hurricanes and tropical storms.”
