In need of a robot butler? The latest version of the Care-o-Bot is coming soon! The Care-O-Bot 4 is a rolling bot designed to help around the house or work in the service industry. It’s customizable, too, with six plug and play components. So customers can request what hardware they want on their bot. The robot could be used to move things around, for telepresence meetings, or as a “full-fledged two armed gentlemen robot.” (The arms are optional.)
The bot has cameras in its head for gesture recognition, as well as a touchscreen, microphones, LEDs, a laser pointer, and speakers. It features spherical joints and pivot points at the neck and hips, enabling it to bend forward without losing its balance — even while carrying a load.
German firms Fraunhofer IPA and Phoenix Design and Schunk have been working on this latest version of Care-O-Bot for the last three years. (Their first version came out in 1998.) The companies say this version features a greater range of movement, and is more modular than previous iterations. Am official launch date has yet to be announced.
