Building a robot controlled via a SmartPhone has never been easier, thanks to the LightBlue Bean. The low-energy, Bluetooth-enabled Arduino microcontroller runs on a 3V coin-cell battery. It even features a few on board sensors, including a 3-axis accelerometer, RGB LED, and a temperature sensor.
“With the Bean Loader for Android app, users can compile mobile code on smartphones and tablets as well as program Beans directly from Android devices with BLE support,” Punch Through Design founder, Colin Karpfinger, said in a release. “We’ve had lots of requests for an Android loader app, and now is the time — since Android 4.3, most new phones now have proper support for Bluetooth Low Energy, and Android BLE APIs have finally matured to a point where devices can take full advantage of everything our Android app offers.”
The new app, available via Google Play, enables wireless programming of Arduino sketches to Beans. Users can edit on the app or use another IDE, then compile and upload with the Bean Loader. The new app also makes it easy to update firmware wirelessly.
