In BADASS LEGO GUNS, Martin Hüdepohl shows how to build five impressive projectile-firing LEGO guns of his own design as well as a bonus LEGO butterfly ‘knife’. All the guns have a surprising ‘wow’ factor with a mixture of working mechanisms including magazines, single and double-action triggers, and crossbows. Hüdepohl’s piéce de résistance is the Warbeast, an electric-powered, fully-automatic LEGO assault rifle capable of firing 30 2×1 Technic bricks at a rate of 1,200 rounds per minute!
The book is well organized, with a valuable introduction that includes a description of Hüdepohl’s design principles, construction techniques and tools, a couple of handy charts that show how to align LEGO cross braces, a description of some of the CAD tools used to produce the construction drawings, and a great section on how to get the parts you’ll need through BrickLink, an online market for all things LEGO.
Each weapon has its own section complete with computer-generated images of the completed weapon and construction steps, description, details on how the mechanisms work, bill of materials, and an insightful design history. You really couldn’t ask for much more. More details and video of all the BADASS LEGO GUNS in action can be found on the book’s web site: http://nostarch.com/legoguns.htm
