AUVSI 2012 Conference was Awesome

Robot Editor Tom Atwood with the Boston Dynamics LS3 robot packhorse.

The 2012 AUVSI (Association of Unmanned Vehicle Sysems International) conference and trade show held August 6 – 9 in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay hotel and convention center was a mind-blowing mega event that featured over 500 robotics companies and thousands of robots. These bots included all categories–land, sea, air, space and submarine platforms–and the mood was upbeat and festive. Only here could a roboticist see the most sophisticated, bleeding edge robotics technologies in the world, all  under one roof! That’s me standing in front of the Boston Dynamics LS3 (son of BigDog?). The LS3 can carry 400 pounds anywhere a soldier can walk and the LS3 can fit, and can do it autonomously. Robot had reporters on-site all four days and we captured hundreds of photos and many videos for our readers. Stay tuned for a feature story on this incredible technology conference in the November-December 2012 issue of Robot magazine. You will be able to access our multimedia coverage there via QRcodes that you can scan with your smartphone or tablet.
