These secondary horns are positioned opposite the power output horns for sturdy bracket-mounting in arms, grippers, Robo-One androids, quadrapeds and other multi-legged mobile robots. Note below the massive torque and even greater "holding power" of these specialized robot servos.
The HSR-8498HB was originally designed for the new ROBONOVA-1 robot (the most hackable humanoid bot yet, see the Spring 2006 issue of Robot, www.botmag.com/issue2) and is a great choice for custom robot projects in which affordability and substantial torque are important. The HSR-8498HB servo uses super strong Karbonite gears that will never wear out or create sloppy gear lash. Featuring a digital amplifier and delivering 309oz/in of holding power, the HSR-8498HB servo can also be programmed using the HFP-10 Hitec servo programmer. The HSR-8498HB servo can be built in three different configurations using the custom accessories included in each servo package. Build it as a standard servo design, or use the custom “idler” wheels to create solid and sturdy robot joints. The HSR-8498HB is designed to handle up to 6V only.
HSR-5995TG Robot Servo
If you are looking for extremely high torque, then consider the HSR-5995TG robot servo, which was designed to operate using 4.8V to 7.2V and has a standard size servo case. This digital programmable custom-designed robot servo provides a whopping 416.6oz./in. of torque at 7.4 volts. The servo uses Titanium gears, hardened steel gear pins and an axial brass bushing in the servo case. The HSR-5995TG features 180 degrees of rotation and a custom idler servo horn mounting bracket on the bottom of the servo to accommodate robot joint applications.

This servo includes:
- Titanium Gears
- Coreless Motor
- Programmable / Digital Amplifier
- 180 degree rotation
- Hardened Steel Gear Pins
- Axial Brass Gear Pin Bearings
- High Resolution IC
- 8 “O” rings in the case
- Hitec MK gear
- Gold Plated Connectors
- Heavy Duty 22 gauge Twisted Wire leads
- 3 Custom Bracket optional parts
If you measured gear strength on a scale of 1 - 10, standard hobby servos with plastic gears would rate a 1, carbonite gears a 3 or 4, and titanium a 10. You can see that Hitec Robotics has carefully designed its two new servo lines to meet the engineering needs of discriminating robot builders.
