Grant Imahara VEXplorer
Robot Challenge


Description:
The Grant Imahara VEXplorer Robot Challenge is a skill contest ("Promotion") which is co-sponsored by Revell, Inc., Unit A, 1850 Howard Street, Elk Grove Village, IL 60007, and SolidWorks Corporation, 300 Baker Avenue, Concord, MA 01742 ("Sponsors") that begins on February 28, 2008. The Promotion is void where prohibited and subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws. Participation in the Promotion constitutes Entrants' full and unconditional agreement and acceptance of these Official Rules.

Eligibility / Who May Enter: The Promotion is open to legal residents of the 50 United States with a valid email address, over the age of 14 at the time of entry ("Entrants"). All of Sponsors, their parents, affiliates, and subsidiaries ("Sponsors' Personnel") as well as any company that supplies or provides goods or services (including advertising and promotional) in connection with this Promotion ("Suppliers") or employees of Suppliers, their parents, affiliates, and subsidiaries ("Supplier Personnel"), and the immediate families and household members of Sponsors' Personnel and Supplier Personnel are not eligible. The term "immediate families" shall mean parents, siblings, children, and spouse. The term "household members" shall mean persons living in the same household.

To Enter: To enter, Entrants must submit a short description of an idea for how the Entrant would use the VEXplorer in a unique way in a video that Entrant will create and post on YouTube. Submit the description, along with your name, street address, telephone number, date of birth, and email address, via email to Tom Atwood at Robot Magazine at VexplorerContest@botmag.com, with the subject line "Grant Imahara VEXplorer Contest" ("Entry"). Entries must be received on or before March 24, 2008. Entries may not be offensive or defamatory, which shall be determined in the sole discretion of Sponsors. All Entries must be complete when submitted. Incomplete Entries will not be accepted. All Entries submitted become the sole property of Sponsors and will not be returned. Limit one Entry per person.

Selection of Semi-Finalists:Each Entry will be judged by a panel of judges from Robot Magazine, including Grant Imahara ("Panel"). Complete Entries will be judged on a scale of 1-100 under the following criteria: (1) originality (50%); and (2) creativity (50%) ("Semi-Finalist Selection Criteria").The Panel will select the twenty-five contestants with the highest overall score and will name those entrants as Semi-Finalists. In the event of a tie, a Semi-Finalist will be selected based on the originality criterion. Semi-Finalists will be selected on or about April 1, 2008. The Panel's decisions regarding the selection of the Semi-Finalists are final. The Semi-Finalists will be notified by telephone and e-mail by approximately April 5, 2008.

Creation and Uploading of Video Shortly after April 1, 2008, all Semi-Finalists will then receive from Sponsors a VEXplorer kit to use in the creation of a video ("Video") to be posted on YouTube. Entrants will not receive any additional payment or materials from Sponsor to create the Video. The following rules apply for creation of the Video: (1) Only parts packaged in the VEXplorer unit provided by Sponsors may be used; (2) Videos cannot be obscene, defamatory, offensive or unnecessarily violent; (3) Videos cannot involve any activity that is dangerous or destructive to any living thing or that appears unsafe or dangerous; (4) Videos cannot contain trademarks, logos or copyrighted materials of third parties; (5) Videos must not violate any law, rules or regulations; (6) Videos must be no more than five (5) minutes in length; and (7) Videos must not have been previously published, entered in any other competition or contest, and must not violate or infringe the rights of other parties in any manner. In the sole discretion of Sponsors, any Video that does not conform to these rules and requirements will be disqualified and ineligible to win the Promotion.

All Videos must be uploaded to YouTube, with a copy sent to the following email address:VexplorerContest@botmag.com, on or before June 1, 2008.  Limit one Video per Semi-Finalist.

Selection of Winners: Conforming Videos created by the Semi-Finalists will be judged by Grant Imahara on a scale from 1-100 in each of the following categories: (1) creativity and unusual use of the VEXplorer in the video (20%); (2) creativity of use of all functional parts in the kit (20%); (3) creativity of engineering design (20%); (4) creativity of cinematography in the video, including settings, camera angles, lighting, and the like (20%); and (5) optional use of the SolidWorks Student Design Kit software to design the robot prior to building it (20%) ("Winner Selection Criteria"). The twelve (12) Semi-Finalists with the highest overall scores will be named the First, Second, and Third place winners ("Winners"). (There will be ten (10) Third place winners.) In the event of a tie, a Winner will be selected based on the creativity of engineering design criterion. Winners will be selected on or about June 5, 2008. The decisions regarding the selection of the Winners are final. The Winners will be notified by telephone and e-mail by approximately June 10, 2008.

Prizes:
First Prize (1): Five Thousand Dollars (U.S.) ($5,000.00) in the form of a 529 Qualified Tuition Plan.
Second Prize (1): Two Thousand Dollars (U.S.) ($2,000.00) in the form of a 529 Qualified Tuition Plan.
Third Prize (10): Gift certificate for VEXLABS.COM worth Two Hundred Dollars (U.S.) ($200).

All prizes will be awarded. No alternative prizes or substitution is permitted, except by Sponsors in their sole discretion in the event of prize unavailability. Prizes are non-transferable. Winners will be issued a 1099 form from the Internal Revenue Service for any prize over $600. Taxes of any kind, including all federal, state, and/or local taxes, are the sole responsibility of each winner.

Execution of Documents: Each Semi-Finalist and Winner may be required to execute affidavits of eligibility, waivers of liability, copyright assignments, and liability and publicity releases within five (5) business days of notification or other such date as set by Sponsors, unless prohibited by law. If a Semi-Finalist or Winner is a minor in his or her state of residence, a parent or guardian shall be required to execute such documents on the minor's behalf. If these documents are not received within the required time period, an alternative Semi-Finalist or Winner may be selected. Sponsors are not responsible for and shall not be liable for late, lost, misdirected, or unsuccessful efforts to deliver the notification information to any Semi-Finalist or Winner. If any Semi-Finalist or Winner has changed addresses, it is the sole responsibility of that individual to notify Sponsors of the new address.

Conditions: By entering this Promotion, Entrants expressly agree to execute Sponsor's affidavits of eligibility, waivers of liability, copyright assignments, and liability and publicity releases. Entrants further acknowledge and understand that execution of these documents will require a waiver of all claims of liability against Sponsors, Sponsors' Personnel, Suppliers, and Supplier Personnel for damages of any type associated with or resulting from participation in this Promotion or in association with any prizes awarded in connection with this Promotion.

All Semi-Finalists and Winners, unless prohibited by law, hereby consent to and agree that Sponsors and their Suppliers may use, edit, modify, distribute, and publish in any form in any and all media worldwide, without compensation, in perpetuity, their names, likenesses, Entries, Videos, and biographical information. Sponsors and Suppliers shall have no liability and shall be released and held harmless by Entrants for any type of damages, loss, or liability to person or property due, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, arising out of their participation in the Promotion, Sponsor's use of Entries or Videos, or with respect to the awarding, acceptance, possession, use, or misuse of any prize. Any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or in connection with this Promotion or any prize shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by arbitration Claims, judgments, and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering this Promotion, but in no event attorneys' fees. By participating, Entrants agree that, if necessary, all disputes will be resolved in state or federal courts in Illinois exclusively and subject to the laws of the State of Illinois.

Sponsors are not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, damaged, illegible, inaccurate, incomplete, incorrect, or misrouted Entries or Videos. Sponsors reserve the right to cancel the Promotion or change any element thereof, with or without notice, at any time, due to printing errors, technical errors or problems, or other mistakes or problems in the production or operation of the Promotion. Sponsors further reserve the right to disqualify, in its sole discretion, any person tampering with the entry process, the Promotion, or who violates these Official Rules in any way. There is no purchase necessary to enter or participate in the Promotion.

By entering this Promotion, Entrants expressly represent and warrant that they have all rights to their Entry and Video, and that the Entry and Video is entirely the original work of the Entrant, and no one else has any rights to either. Entrants further represent and warrant that no material in their Entry or Video was copied, in whole or in part, from any other source, is subject to any claim of ownership by any other individual, or is the subject of any copyright.

List of Winners: A list of winners will be published in the July 2008 issue of Robot Magazine. To obtain a copy of the names of the Winners, send a request in writing along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope to: VEXplorer Robot Challenge List of Winners c/o Revell Inc. Marketing Department, Unit A, 1850 Howard Street, Elk Grove Village, IL 60007. Vermont residents may omit return postage. Requests must be received no later than July 1, 2008.
